Notes from another island:
As I stood and watched the fireworks over Cowes harbour on Friday, I considered the contestants who would leave in the morning on the Fastnet race. Having shuddered at the very sight of the lighthouse on the rock from a field in Ireland, I know how far it is, Good luck to them all. Little bit of Seafever Lads.
I thought about the end of my yearlong experiment in living in the Bahamas as the Disney flowers burst high in the night sky. I pondered the four trips to the United States from my base near Eleuthera and appraised the shows in Colorado and the 'rake and scrape' gigs around the island. My 'riff-raff' and 'royalty' tour, covered a total of 3 and 1/2miles, and was seen by up to fifty persons. The rockets sounded like Ak-Ak fire over the Solent, as my review continued. I had also spent quite a bit of time in a bayside studio, recording with some local players, and some talented visitors. I had drunk beer. I had nearly found the answer, for there can be no better sound to sleep to, than the roll of the Atlantic on the fringing reef.
On that crazed sand bar reside for ever some dear friends and the beauty of the place is sublime, yet...
The crowd cheered as a smiley face lit up the night, their saucy-postcard celebrations cutting through my drunken reveries.
Now that I'm home in England I sense a wistful air of ripe fruitfulness, a special after-taste in the local ale that foreshadows the end of summer, a warning in the scurry of the field mouse on the golden fields of Sussex.
Odd. Not quite the legacy I had imagined for my Bounty advert vagrancy.
"They came in search of paradise and only fanned the flames of indecision."
Oh well! To hell with it, I feel a spot of Old Europe coming on and so I'm off to Umbria for Difford's writing week.

"More Vino Signor?"
"Yes please Giuseppe I’m just wrestling with a particularly difficult Middle 8 in the formal gardens, I’m being driven half loco by my writing partners (from Brighton obviously), and I'm already half a pack of Rizlas in to a tediously overstretched metaphor in verse three."
"Bene, Cigarillo di Maroc Excellency?"
"Si Laddie, Esta canzionne si chiamo 'Too bloody right cocker!', Oi! Chris, Where’s me tuner?"

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
That’s the kind of European integration I'm talking about....
September promises to see a boost for AITD in the United Kingdom so I hope to see some of you out there reasonably soon.
