Dear All,
Deep in a freezing wine cellar in the heart of a dormant vineyard in Provence, a vision of a Saturday morning boat ride, 4000 miles away and a year ago, popped up in the lyrics to this song.
This kind of geographical juxtaposition has been the bane of my tracks for years but I still enjoy it. You know the kind of thing surely, day dreaming about New York when you are in a 17th century village in Spain or wishing you were in the Alps as you hit the beach in Bermuda. Or perhaps that's a sensation reserved for people who choose to think of life in terms of some tattered 1950's shilling shocker. I suppose it is always possible that there are better Gurus than Leslie Charteris but I can't think of one off hand. Anyway, Luke, Mike and I had a great writing session last and encouraged by this gratifying fluency I dared to mention Colorado by name for the first time.
In fact there are so many real place names in the new songs I'm working on at the moment that I think the next album should be called 'Still Hurting in Places'.
So I am pleased to preview some of the vibe by offering "Water Taxi", which I wrote with Dominic Miller, in demo form, complete with lyrics, for your considered inspection.
